SUMMARY
Tamil Nadu Budget 2025: Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu presented Budget 2025 in the Legislative Assembly on Friday, March 14. These are the key takeaways.

Education: The Tamil Nadu government will disburse ₹2,500 crore education loans to 1 lakh college students. ₹1,000 crore has been allocated for improving government schools’ infrastructure. An allocation of ₹275 crore has been made for student hostels in Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai, which is expected to benefit 1,000 students. Children who have lost both their parents will be provided ₹2,000 stipend to continue their education.

Drinking Water: ₹675 crore has been allocated for modernisation for drinking water projects. FM also announced a slew of drinking water projects across Erode, Mayiladthurai, Thiruvallur and other districts of TN, with an allocation of over ₹26,000 crore.

Roads: 6,100 kilometers of rural roads will be improved at a cost of ₹2,200 crore. ₹120 crore will be allocated to develop road infrastructure in rural areas, while ₹310 crore has been allocated for a new flyover of about 3 kilometer in Velachery to address road congestion.

Insurance: A group insurance scheme will be introduced for 1.50 lakh workers in Tamil Nadu.

Housing: The govt announced the construction of 1 lakh houses at a cost of ₹3,500 crore under the Kalaignar’ scheme.

Sports: ₹572 crore has been allocated for the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department. (Source: Freepik)

Women welfare: The govt has extended its flagship fare-free bus services for women, and announced a 1% reduction in stamp duty on property and other assets registered in a woman’s name, effective April 1, 2025.

Healthcare: A sum of ₹21,906 crore has been allocated for the Health and Family Welfare Department.

Tamil Nadu Semiconductor Mission-2030’ over the next five years with an estimated allocation of ₹500 crore. The state’s electronics exports have witnessed significant growth, rising from $1.66 billion in 2020-21 to $9.56 billion in 2023-24.
